Maithu Bùi; Jackie Grassmann & Ernst Markus Stein; Franziska Pierwoss; Josefine Reisch; Gabriele Stötzer, Verena Kyselka & Paula Gehrmann and a contribution from Annemirl Bauer
For the exhibition In Conversation with Ghosts, artists were invited to engage with specific moments in the history of the Eierhäuschen: its use as a storage place for props for the East German television, as a café set up here on the occasion of the 10th World Youth Festival in East Berlin in 1973, or as the site from which the radio programme “Sieben bis Zehn: Sonntagmorgen in Spreeathen” was broadcast. The works presented In Conversation with Ghosts enter into dialogue with the ghosts of that era. They take up these moments and range from textile and film installations to acoustic interventions and radio programmes produced on site.
For the exhibition, Maithu Bùi, Franziska Pierwoss, Josefine Reisch, Ernst Markus Stein and Jackie Grassmann, Gabriele Stötzer, Verena Kyselka and Paula Gehrmann entered into a dialogue with the ghosts of that era. They will revisit these historical moments in film and room installations, textile works, prints and specially produced radio broadcasts. The works combine personal stories with collective memories, provide new perspectives on the social realities of the GDR, and address both familiar and suppressed moments from this past.
As an integral part of the exhibition, a varied programme will feature talks, live radio broadcasts, readings, guided tours, a performative aperitif, workshops, music, and an evening of films from Vietnam.
