The former pavilion of the swan railroad will be given new purpose thanks to Sol Calero: Designed as a place to linger, rest and retreat, the Algae House fuses a range of historic pavilion features to serve as an open-air meeting spot or unique space for smaller events.
For the vibrant and welcoming pavilion, the artist will make use of recycled building materials and distinctive architectural features. Calero merges the historical architecture and aesthetics of 20th-century amusement parks with the present-day vision of the Spreepark. Alongside elements of the former amusement park such as the rocket from the children's carousel "Brummel," she includes references to nature today and the wildlife and vegetation found on site, including the rare stiff-bristled stonewort algae that gave the pavilion its name. The algae, now on the red list of endangered species can be found settled in the waters of the swan track.
