Drop-in workshop for kids and adults with Merle Richter

Inspired by Iván Argote's series “PRINT” (on display in the exhibition “A Place to Stay”), we will explore how language can become a sculpture. 

In his works, Argote brings together text, painting, and sculpture, creating playful relationships between words, forms, architecture, and poetry. Working with concrete, colour, and inscribed phrases, he creates reliefs that evoke the facades and walls of buildings while conveying messages that hover between political statements and declarations of love, merging the intimate and the poetic with a sense of community. 

In the workshop, we will pour coloured plaster over letters, we will shape and paint words, transforming them into small reliefs that lie somewhere between text, painting, and sculpture. What mark do you want to leave? 

Merle Richter is an artist and art educator. Through careful observation and intensive reflection, she explores moments of entanglement between living beings that arise in her immediate surroundings. Her practice is characterised by conceptual, research-based and performative approaches, as well as working with and through various materials, which she understands as a collaborative process. Her educational work and experimental teaching practice aim to stimulate dialogue and discourse and to explore how “material” and installations with “material” can contribute to initiating processes of aesthetic self-education.
