V. Mitch McEwen

V. Mitch McEwen leads Harlem-based Atelier Office for Reparations, a practice that designs buildings and urban space in tandem with a radical practice of imagining emancipatory futures. Columbia Books on Architecture and the City is the publisher of McEwen's afropessimist monograph on American urbanism– Erasure by Design: Racial Protocols of Displacement, Demolition, and Extraction. McEwen’s design work has been commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, and the Venice Architecture Biennale US Pavilion, as well as awarded grants from the Graham Foundation, Knight Foundation, and New York State Council on the Arts. Her work has been reviewed and published in Art in America, The New York Times, Architectural Record, Metropolis, Pin-Up Magazine, and internationally.
