
Ellen Blumenstein
Ellen Blumenstein is an internationally active curator and author. As founding director, she headed the IMAGINE THE CITY programme in Hamburg until 2022, which realizes projects in an urban context at the interface of culture and urban development. Prior to this, she was Chief Curator at the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin for five years. Since 2018, she has supervised the curated workshop process “Art and Planning” at Spreepark Berlin, in which five artistic concepts were selected by an advisory board to be permanently installed within the park.
She has conceived solo projects with Omer Fast (2023), Kapwani Kiwanga (2021) and Terence Koh (2019), among others, and curated the art walk with walk-in audio library, THE GATE, in Hamburg's urban space (2021). Blumenstein regularly teaches at international art academies, including the Arctic University of Norway in Tromsö, the AdbK Nuremberg and the HFK Bremen. Most recently, her texts on the Oslo MUNCH Museum by Estudio Herreros Madrid (Lambda Files, Spector Books, 2023) and on Ugo Rondinone's installation LIFE TIME at the Schirn Kunsthalle (Schirn Mag, 2022) were published.
