For Gabriele Stötzer, one of the leading figures of the independent art scene in East Germany, the path to visual and performance art began with writing. In this reading, she presents a selection of texts written for the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize in the summer of 1989. Her language—like the Super 8 films shown in the exhibition "In Conversation with Ghosts"—paints a vivid picture of that era with unflinching honesty and uncompromising directness.
