The BDA Prize Berlin is awarded every three years for exemplary, special architectural achievements. Blaue Stunde (Blue Hour) by modulorbeat was recognised as a successful example of the creative revitalisation of an existing spatial structure in both aesthetic and functional terms. The architects from modulorbeat were commissioned by Spreepark Art Space / Grün Berlin with the task of redeveloping the potential of the Mero-Halle, the former fast food restaurant in the Spreepark. The result is a multifunctional space that enables diverse programmes and new forms of public interaction. According to the explanatory statement, Blaue Stunde shows how a seemingly unusable building can be reinterpreted’ and demonstrates ‘how simple and meaningful the reutilisation of existing buildings can be’.
The BDA PRIZE BERLIN is awarded jointly to developers and architects and is intended to help raise public awareness of high-quality design and to encourage all those significantly involved in this to make a personal commitment. The prize is awarded in several categories, which recognise, among other things, the urban design interpretation, the overall architectural expression, the special spatial effect, the social commitment or the ecological concept.
